Wash U, for some inexplicable reason, is hosting its 3rd presidential debate in 12 years (okay, its the donors on the board of trustees, but life without mystery is no fun - re: postal service song below). Its deja vu for me, but I won’t be around campus for it. Kinda glad, actually. So the good kids are planning a mini-Social World Forum. Good for them. I was invited to one of their meetings with Andy Jones to reminisce about our own little event back in 2000.
Note the old skool o17 pics on the site. They get mad respect for acknowledging their history.

So Howard Stern was fined for describing a “David Copperfield” on his show several years ago in a blatant attempt by the FCC to make an example (and to do this, by the way, they had to contradict themselves and declare that bono’s ‘fucking brilliant’ comment was obscence). Well, Oprah had a guest describe a “Tossed Salad” on her show yesterday, with almost the same language. Oprah should be fined by the FCC!!! Send an email to Chairman Mao - err, Chairman Powell of the FCC and let him know that *you* are offended by Oprah’s tossed salad.
: Here is exactly what was said on Oprah:
WINFREY: OK–so–OK, so what is a salad toss?
Ms. BURFORD: OK, a tossed salad is–get ready; hold on to your underwear for this one–oral anal sex. So oral sex to the anus is what tossed salad is.
Hi, Mom.
That is exactly the kind of statement for which Stern was fined yesterday. Exactly. Here’s the Stern transcript. And I quote:
HS: Well, a blumpkin is receiving oral sex while you’re sitting on a toilet bowl if you are a man. You’re sitting on a toilet bowl and uh, while you’re evacuating you receive your oral.

just saw this in a thomas friedman op-ed… quite chilling:
“Every once in a while the technology and terrorist supply chains intersect — like last week. Reuters quoted a Spanish official as saying after the Madrid train bombings: “The hardest thing [for the rescue workers] was hearing mobile phones ringing in the pockets of the bodies. They couldn’t get that out of their heads.”
