Month in Review (Lazy Compiled Post)
I’ve seen a mess of shows these past few weeks, without any documentation.
Broken Social Scene were okay. I don’t know why that band needed like 15 people on the stage, with what appeared to be 4 guitarists. I really liked their songs from “You Forgot it in People.” The Henry Fonda in theatre in Hollywood is good. I recommend.
The Suicide Girls cabaret show was really cool, actually. A Japanese math rock band, a trio of females, opened up, and kicked some ass. The cabaret show was cool, too. Alterna girls bringing cabaret style dancing back. Cool.
The Los Feliz neighborhood meeting concerning the demolition of the Derby was well attended - perhaps over 300 people. Three hundred people who all seemed adamantly, and vocally opposed to Adler’s Realty’s attempt to build 5 story condo’s at the corner of Hillhurt and Los Feliz Blvd. Adler Realty had a traffic engineering firm as a witness for their side, but unfortunately, the firm has not done their study yet. It was pretty maddening because most of the questions focused on the impact the project would have on traffic. The damn artistic rendering of the new condo’s showed 4 damn cars on the intersection there. Thats probably accurate for 3:30 AM. Anyway, the lady from the traffic firm got booed pretty soundly, because all of her answers consisted of “Well thats a great question, and we plan on addressing that in the course of our study.”
Tickets for KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas, Night 2, are impossible to get. Seeing Depeche Mode, Death Cab, White Stripes, and others, ACOUSTIC!!, blows my mind. And it apparently blows everyone else’s mind’s too. If you have a ticket, I’d probably do things for you I never thought I’d be capable of doing. Thats it - thats all I will say.
