The New Places Obsessions can take You

Its January and I read blogs about the Cardinals for about 30 minutes every day (I am underestimating because, well, it is embarassing.) I start with Viva El Birdos and kind of click around from there. Growing up in St. Louis as a Cardinals fan, I never spent this much energy following the team in the winter. I don’t even know if it was possible to follow a team without the internet. I guess you could watch for updates on trades, and listen to some sports talk show on AM radio.

I went to Tangier in Los Feliz the other night, only because the Derby had some special event going on instead of their local night on Tuesday night. Tangier turns out to have an amazing performance space, and instead of some crap local bands, I saw Mike Andrews, who is really very good. I have read that Mike Andrews was the composer for the soundtrack to Donnie Darko, and that these Tuesday night performances are a regular gig with a revolving cast. How am I always the last to know?

it took the year passing for me to realize how crazy ‘05 was. good riddens. at least it was fun to live through.

my friend rohini said this, today, in a discussion about cities: “i think living in texas my whole life almost has totally lowered my expectations of cities.”
