I work with some diehard Angels fans (to be expected in SoCal), and they refer to the Cardinals as the Angels of the Midwest, considering all the former Angels players our team staffs. While the rest of the country seems bitter that the Cards won the world series, these angels fans are pretty excited, as they still revere David Eckstein and Scott Spiezio. They are eating crow about Jeff Weaver, though. Its a nice redemption story. He’s cast off to make room for his brother, and he finds a new team and leads them to a World Series championship. Jim Edmonds was another cast-off; he was considered a cancer in the clubhouse in Anaheim.
Happy hollyween! There were kids at the hospitals in costumes. It was cute. I’ve lived in apartment buildings for the past 8 years of my life, so i forget what its like to have kids coming to the door for treats. . .

Friday night, the Cardinals win the world series and I’ve been buzzing ever since. I wonder when that feeling goes away. I invested nearly 162 days watching the time, plus just reading about off-season moves, and then an october where all my plans revolved around watching games. I even watched one world series game from a patient’s room. Totally worth it.
I remember in ‘04, when the got swept, it was hard to swallow, but I still followed every off-season move. It helps that they won this year, but i don’t it would matter if they lost, i’d still be hopelessly obsessed. Let this be a warning to you, casual fan . . .

my new apartment complex is actually kind of a halfway home for yuppies. and like most yuppies, the folks here all seem to have dogs, big ones, small crazy looking ones. most of the patios are about 6 foot by 10 foot, not enough room for outdoor pets, but you seem these dogs stranded on the patios, barking away madly all day long. i’m coming around to thinking that people who own pets in cities are pretty selfish, for the most part. their pets are left alone all day, miserable, and barking til they’re hoarse. and i have to hear it right now. all so that when their owners get home, they can get a quick furry rub-down and feel happy. well its not fair. i propose a dog park where dogs roam free all day. presumably this dog park has sound insulation walls, and is far away from me. the rules of the jungle would apply; some poofy dogs would die in the good fun. thats the price i am willing to pay.
today’s somewhat related aphorism: Just because it makes you feel good doesn’t mean you’re any closer to your goals. Okay, its actually totally unrelated to the dog tirade.
